FAQ
What does AMIS stand for?
AMIS™ is Asset Management Information Service. This service was developed by the founder of MCP-AMIS, Jeff Gadd, and was introduced in 1988, with direct sponsorship from the UK Government’s Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). At the time, the DTI estimated that over $2 billion a year could be saved by through better maintenance practices. AMIS was introduced to the United States in 1992 and now has more than 4,000 participants worldwide from all business sectors.
What about MCP?
MCP stands for Management Consultancy Partnership, the original name of our company in 1969. The AMIS suffix was introduced in 1988, following the release of the benchmarking service.
Where do your Best Practices come from?
Our partners and senior consultants have been working in the manufacturing, maintenance, engineering and industrial engineering fields for more than 30 years, on average. They have worked at all organization levels from maintenance mechanic, to operator, supervisor and roles up to plant general manager. Their experience has been gained in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Middle East, South Africa and Australia – in sectors from manufacturing to mining to facilities. This experience enabled the development of AMIS and other benchmarking services, as well as identification of what really are best practices. Our knowledge is continually refined through working with clients that have demonstrated world-class status in our surveys.
What are the typical benefits of using your services?
Typically, our clients recover the costs of using our services within less than 12 months of implementing our recommendations. Based upon previous performance review, sources of benefit include cost savings, revenue enhancement and capital avoidance. However, we prefer to offer references related to specific business areas – as appropriate – rather than making generalized statements about the benefits of our services.

We provide standard courses in:

How is your approach different from that of other consulting companies?
Our professionals are known for possessing both practical experience in a variety of industries as well as having a solid professional and technical education. They bring real-life solutions to real-life problems. In addition, we work closely with clients to develop an in-depth understanding of their real issues before making recommendations. Too often consultants can be justly accused of bringing prescribed solutions while manipulating clients’ problems to fit them.
How long does an assessment take?
An advantage of AMIS’s unique consensus approach is that it is very time efficient. The assessment process typically requires only a half-day to complete. This is followed by a 2-hour feedback session the following business day with the presentation of formal report 2-3 weeks later.
What are the outputs from the assessment?
A feedback presentation follows the assessment with a formal report 2-3 weeks later highlighting the strengths and opportunities that exist within the client’s organization. Our comprehensive report includes specific recommendations for improvement.
Who owns the report?
Results of the assessment are owned by the client, with no obligation to engage AMIS to provide the suite of services offered for improvement actions.
